Man! For me, this is an easy subject. It started when I was a child. I did not always know how to mingle with the other kids. Many times I felt invisible, as a friend of mine said. I often retreated to my books. No matter what was right or wrong with the world, books me to another place. I could live a different life and be anyone I wanted to be depending on the book or comic book I chose to read.
Books were not my only escape. Certain movies or television shows had the same effect on me. Songs or music could do that as well, and if I could get some vanilla or chocolate ice cream, it would make me feel better.
As an adult, I have added writing to the mix. Any one of these things always makes me feel better regardless of what is going on in the world. They are my retreat.
While all of these things work for me, books remain my number one place to go. I have surrounded myself with books I love to read, and any one of these books, I have no problems rereading. I have books I have read seven or eight times, and I enjoy them just as much as the first I read them.
Books had always come to my rescue in my life, when I worked for Pacific Bell, when I worked as a temp, and when I worked for RCAC.
I am always encouraging individuals to read. The places you can go to and the things you can do, see and experience are exceptional. Since I do not like to fly or go on cruises, this affords me an excellent way to see the world. I hope this gives you a little more insight into who I am. Tomorrow I will tell you of the last time I cried. Until then, stay safe, and keep the faith.
