Personal Freedom Begins in Your Mind

You might be surprised to learn that the biggest obstacle to your freedom is right between your ears. A negative mindset is the biggest block to freedom.

There are so many parts of your life you cannot control, from the need to earn a living to finding true love. But you can control your mindset, your thoughts, and how you act in the world. So how can you overcome your psychological blocks and open your mind to achieve greater freedom?

  • Change the record

Everyone has a constant inner monologue, what psychologists call self-talk. And most of the time, yours is probably set to negative. Any messages you get in childhood about being bad, hopeless, selfish, or stupid all get absorbed in your malleable child’s brain and resurface in adulthood as your Inner Critic.

The good news is that you can reprogram your Inner Critic and turn it into an Inner Coach.

Make a list of all the negative things your Inner Critic says. Be alert for phrases that start ‘you always or ‘you never.’ Watch out for ‘shoulds’ too. Then take each negative message and turn it into a positive one.

Change your self-talk broken record to a new track full of encouragement and positivity.

  • Change your expectations

Studies have shown that the most significant contributors to success or failure are your expectations. Happy people expect things to go well, and mistakes or problems do not crush them. They see them only as temporary setbacks. Conversely, if the expectation is to fail, any issue will confirm the expectations, and you will not try again.

Expecting things to work out is not wishful thinking; it chooses to be positive no matter what the circumstances.

  • Change your focus

Modern society trains us to be dissatisfied with what we have now and constantly strive for bigger, better shiners. You can choose to step outside of this and be grateful for what you have right now.

Developing a habit of gratitude frees you from this pressure and affects the structure of your brain. Studies show that the more you feel grateful, the more resilient you become in the face of life’s ups and downs. You feel happier with what you have and more open to receiving. Even better, you rewire the neural pathways in your brain so that your mindset defaults to positivity. You start to see the good things before you notice the bad.

Over time, you perceive life as positive, and your expectations change. You free yourself from the burden of negativity! Take some time today and write down one thing you are grateful for in your life. Until next time, stay safe, and keep the faith.

5 Ways to Reinvent Yourself Through Journaling

One of the most significant lies we tell ourselves is we are stuck in a rut. However, did you know it is possible to change your situation and change yourself too?

The mind is a powerful thing. It can be our greatest ally or our biggest enemy. The key to reinventing yourself is to gain control over the mind and start living the life you want to live. One way you can do this is by keeping a journal.

Here, you will discover five ways to reinvent yourself through journaling.

1. Choose the right journal

Okay, so this one may sound a little silly, but the journal you choose can significantly impact its effectiveness. Your journal is supposed to inspire and motivate you to use it. So, if you do not love it, you are not going to feel very inspired.

Take your time to choose the right journal. Think about its design and the way out of the pages. Do you love it? Can you see yourself writing in it every day? It may sound a little ridiculous, but the right journal will pick you up.

2. Start by writing about the things you are grateful for

Once you’ve got the right journal, figuring out how to start can be pretty tough. If you are struggling, start by writing a list of the things you are grateful to have in your life. You can either write first thing in the morning or last thing in the evening. There are advantages of doing it both times, so it is all about what works for you.

We often spend most of our time focusing on the things we do not have or the things we wish we had. It makes us forget about the positive things we do have. Journaling helps you focus on the positive things in the here and now, rather than wasting time and energy wishing for something more.

How can this help you to reinvent yourself? Well, the more positive you are, the easier you will find it to make a change. Our negativity often sets us back in life, so anything that makes us become more positive can help us reinvent ourselves.

3. Be 100% honest

Journaling is not going to help you if you are not 100% honest. The trouble is, you may find you spend so much time hiding how you feel that being 100% honest about your thoughts and feelings can be challenging to start. It would help if you remembered that your journal is a safe place. It is a non-judgmental space that enables you to say exactly how you feel with no repercussions or judgments.

Once you are honest about your thoughts and feelings and what you want from life, you will see what you need to do to change.

4. Write down your goals

Use the journal to write down what it is you want to achieve. You can write your goals in the form of short-term and long-term goals. It is essential to see the big picture. Where do you want to be in 3-5 years, and how could you potentially get there?

Writing down your goals and identifying the steps you need to take to change will help massively.

5. Make it a routine

It is important to use your journal daily. Set up a daily routine where you write in your journal at a specific time. Once you have gotten used to writing in the journal, it will become an automatic habit you carry out each day.

As with anything, to reinvent yourself, you need to be persistent and committed. So, be sure to write in your journal every single day.

These are just five ways to reinvent yourself through journaling. The more you do it, the more chances you will start to see – both how you feel and how you act. The more I journal, the better the results I experience. I know you will as well. Happy journaling! Until next time, stay safe, and keep the faith.

St. Patrick’s Day

I had a wonderful St Patrick’s Day meal. I tried to be nice and only put a little bit of food on my plate. I do not usually drink alcohol. I have champagne for New Year and beer for the 4th of July.

However, there was a lone bottle of Mickeys’ beer in my refrigerator. I decided it should accompany my meal. I enjoyed a bowl of vanilla and chocolate ice cream for dessert.

I am still feeling stuffed. It was a great meal! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Until next time, stay safe, and keep the faith.

TURN THE SPOTLIGHT WITHIN

“A human being has so many skins inside, covering the depths of the heart.

We know so many things, but we don’t know ourselves! Why thirty or forty skins

or hides, as thick and hard as an ox’s or bear’s, cover the soul.

Go into your own ground and learn to know yourself there.”

– Meister Eckhart

The only person you can change is yourself. When you choose to transform yourself, you will notice changes in your environment, including in the people who surround you. The world is your mirror, and you create both the negative and the positive situations you encounter.

When you find yourself getting irritated by someone, examine yourself to see whether you harbor the same negative trait that they are manifesting. It requires delving deep. Usually, you will find the answer is yes. You likely possess the same trait in some form or another in yourself.

Keep a Journal

Self-awareness entails observing your thoughts and actions. One of the best ways to do this is by writing in a journal every day. If you keep putting it off and allow a week to go by without making notes, you may not recall everything.

Keeping notes will help you see the patterns and values you have been harboring all along. Once you can identify these patterns, you can begin to change them if they are not, leading to positive outcomes.

I have shared the story several times of learning to smile and speak with everyone I meet changed my life for the better. Learn the thing you need to become more self-aware and watch your world begin to change around you.\

I would love to hear your story of self-awareness. If you are willing, I will share it on my blog. You can email me at lwrepark@gmail.com. Until next time, stay safe, and keep the faith.

Self-Care is the Ultimate Anti-Aging Hack

When it comes to fighting off the effects of aging, there is a lot you can do. You can eat right, take great care of your skin, exercise, and all of that, but ultimately the best anti-aging hack is self-care. Self-care makes all the difference in aging because it feeds your unique and specific needs. While nutrition, diet, and exercise are general and can apply to most people, self-care is highly personal, and what one person needs may look nothing like what someone else does.

We all need self-care, but not the same kind

We can all agree that self-care is vital, but we will likely disagree on the type and frequency everyone needs. Only you know what self-care means to you and how much and what type you need. For new moms, self-care could mean a shower and a nap, while a retired or widowed woman may need companionship for self-care.

We all need self-care, but not the same kind. You have to tune into what you need and make it a priority. If you need 9 1/2 hours of sleep per night to be healthy, you have to focus. Ultimately, whether or not you add self-care to the list of anti-aging hacks will determine how well you fight the aging process.

We all need self-care, but it changes over time

What we needed for self-care a year ago may not be what we need today. As our situations change over time, so does the sort and frequency of self-care we need today. Be sure to stay tuned to what you need to care for yourself and make any shifts or adjustments along the way. It is reasonable to expect that what you need changes and how you get your self-care fill will change.

We all need self-care, and so does your family

People resist self-care because it feels indulgent and selfish. One of the easiest ways to make space for guilt-free self-care is to make it a priority for your whole family. When you model the importance of self-care and empower others to take it for themselves, it becomes normalized. People feel more relaxed and supported, and that promotes aging well and living a stress-less lifestyle.

You can fight aging by eating right and drinking plenty of water, but you add to the richness of life by making self-care a regular part of your routine. Take the time to care for yourself, and it will reflect in your happiness and the longevity of your life.

Until the next time, stay safe, and keep the faith.

3 Ways to Stop the Clock with Food

Anti-aging is not about vanity. It is about healthfully delaying the aging process, turning back time whenever possible, or reversing the effects of neglect on our bodies. Finding ways to slow down the aging process is part of an intelligent health plan, no matter what age you are.

When we are younger, our bodies overcome our bad choices pretty quickly. We can eat what we want and not see any negative results immediately. If you were a picky eater as a kid and only ate Kraft macaroni and cheese and Snack Pack pudding, it might not have slowed you down much. Over time, your choices catch up to you, and having a poor diet begins to affect your health, your stamina, and your overall appearance. What once felt like a safe and comfortable choice has become a health risk.

Food is fuel. It can also be medicine or a caloric fountain of youth. Food can help stop the clock from ticking too fast and keep your body healthy into your later years. Eating healthy foods rich in antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals can undo the damage caused by too many cheeseburgers or pints of ice cream. Even if you do not have a history of healthy eating, you can slow down the aging process immediately by making some wise food choices.

Consider these three ways you can stop the clock with your healthy food choices-

Eating a rainbow stops the clock- When it comes to food choices, the more options, the better. When choosing healthy foods for anti-aging, eat a rainbow of colors. Every color represented in the produce section of your grocer has a specific benefit for your body. Choose various colors, and you will attack the free radicals floating around in your body from different angles.

  • Deep red and purple- These fruits and vegetables reduce antioxidants in your bloodstream and help manage estrogen levels.
  • Yellow and orange- provide vitamin C and detoxify harmful carcinogens
  • Green and light green- provide folate and destroy cancer cells
  • Blue and brown- add fiber and attack carcinogens

Eating a wide variety of colors will help you attack the bad stuff in your body while adding plenty of good things your body needs.

Eating gut-friendly foods stops the clock- Your gut is responsible for a lot of your overall health. Did you know there are good and not-so-good things going on in your stomach? What you eat can contribute to your overall gut health and digestion. Focusing on prebiotic and probiotic foods can help you keep your gut healthy.

Prebiotic foods- These are foods that the bacteria in your stomach use to thrive. They consume the foods you eat, which helps keep the healthy bacteria in your digestive system thriving and high enough in numbers to do their job. Too few beneficial bacteria can lead to bowel disease, inflammation, and digestive disorders.

Probiotic foods- These foods are live organisms that help keep your digestive system healthy. They come from live cultures and are found in dairy products, kefir, kombucha, and sauerkraut. Routinely consuming these foods can help with irritable bowel syndrome, aid in digestion, and reduce the intensity of common colds.

Water-dense foods stop the clock- Our bodies are made mostly of water. We need an additional amount of water consumed for our bodies to stay hydrated and functioning optimally. We can consume water by drinking it or eating it. Thankfully, many foods are water-dense and contribute to the water we need to consume daily. Grapes, melon, cucumber, berries, and citrus fruits are good sources of water-rich foods.

It is easy to use food as a practical and healthy way to stop the clock in aging. Purposefully choosing foods that fight disease, create good gut health, and keep you hydrated will surely make a massive difference in your longevity.

Until next time, stay safe, and keep the faith.
