Here is a rewrite of a story I wrote back in 2020. I thought I would tell it with a little humor this time.

Let me tell you about my little buddy, Charlie. I didn’t choose the name for any reason other than that it was the first thing that popped into my head. Charlie’s a snail, and he’s been residing outside my front door. Every morning when I leave for work, he is, chillin’ in the dirt on the right-hand side of the steps. And when I get back in the evening, he’s moved over to the left-hand side. It’s like he’s watching my house, like a tiny guardian.

If you’ve never seen a snail move, let me tell you, it’s a sight to behold. They contract and relax the muscles in their foot to slowly crawl along. And they secrete mucus to reduce friction and protect themselves. Plus, they can crawl over a razor blade without getting hurt. I mean, that’s just hardcore.

Some people might see snails as garden pests, but Charlie’s munching on decaying plants and soil. And while some snail species are considered delicacies in some parts of the world, I promise you, Charlie is safe with me. I won’t be putting any salt on his fleshy parts, that’s for sure.

I like to think that Charlie spends his days slowly walking across my walkway, taking in the sights and smells. Maybe he’s even got a little snail family in the bushes somewhere. Who knows? I know I’m happy to have him as my little watcher.

Until next time, stay safe, and keep the faith.
