If you find it difficult, make a daily habit of writing down 3-5 things you love about yourself. They can be the same every day or change based on how you feel.

While it is excellent to add healthy habits to your morning routine, adding too many at once can have the opposite effect on your mindset. Instead of feeling positive and hopeful for the day, you can feel stressed and overwhelmed.

Pick just three healthy habits to add to your morning routine to avoid this. Think about the habits that would help you the most, whether reading, journaling, going for a walk, making your bed, drinking a smoothie, yoga, or meditation. There are so many to choose between.

These three habits are the must-dos every morning. Then, when you have a little more energy or more time, you can add some other healthy habits as well.

Start Your Day With a Brain Dump

An easy habit of adding to your morning that helps you get your day started positively is to do a brain dump. It is a style of journaling also called stream of consciousness, where all you do is write down what you’re thinking.

You will write thoughts down as they come, jumping from idea to goal to thought or worry, just as they do in your mind. Keep writing until you feel you have gotten through whatever was on your mind the most. Some mornings, it might be 1 page. Other mornings, you register three or more pages and could keep going if you had the time.

The brain dump helps you release those thoughts and worries, so they don’t follow you around all day. It is a healthy way to purge and start fresh in the morning.

I have listed three action steps to help you accelerate your learning skills.

  1. Commit to learning one new skill per quarter. Try to choose the skills that match your career or choose ones that will benefit you in a new job. When you commit, schedule time to actively learn new skills.
  • Subscribe to at least one trade magazine. Consider the cost as part of your tuition. You could hit up your company to cover the cost, even better.
  • Join some meetup groups geared towards the skills you want to learn. These meetups require people to meet face-to-face. It is scary for some people. But, once you get past the fear, the groups are an excellent resource for learning. It’s also a great way to expand your network.

The steps I have listed are to help you step up your learning or help you come up with other ideas that will work for you.

* Make It Easy – Don’t make it a huge deal, and it’ll be simpler to get done. For example, it’s easier to use a notebook and paper than a computer for most people. You can have the book in your bag or on your bedside table, or wherever you plan to write in it.

* Choose a Time That Works – The best times to do it are early morning, first thing, or the last thing before going to bed. However, that might not work for some people. If you know a better time, do it. For example, some people like journaling while on lunch or at work in the park. It’s up to you.

* Get a Drink and Eat a Snack – You don’t want to have any excuses or extraneous thoughts while you’re writing in your journal. Make sure you’re fed and hydrated.

* Create a Comfortable and Assessable Space – It’s easier to get into your thoughts if you’re comfortable and not think about how your tailbone hurts or your wrist hurts. Some people like using a desk, some a comfy, easy chair, others their bed.

* Combine It with Something Else You Enjoy Doing – If you enjoy cleaning the house, then reading in your clean house with the windows open and the breeze flowing in, why not journal at that moment? If it’s a daily thing, add journaling to it, creating a habit fast.

* Add Some Relaxing Music to Set the Mood – Now, it’s true that some people prefer silence, so that’s fine if you do. But consider trying some music that doesn’t have words, and that is relaxing, to help you gather your thoughts and say calm and focused.

* Use a Particular Type of Journal – For some people, using a style of journaling like bullet journaling, prayer journaling, project journaling, and more works better since it defines some rules for entry.

* Consider Using Journaling Prompts – You can also find journaling prompts online for any journal you want to use.

* Reward Yourself – When you have been diligent for a month writing in your journal, take some time to read what you wrote, then reward yourself. You might buy some colored pens or some scrapbooking materials so you can add some definition and interest to your journal.

    Socializing is a significant factor when trying to be happy. You don’t need dozens of friends. When you have a few that you can trust, that will be necessary. It’s okay to use social media to connect, but that is even better if you can get together in person.

    Happy people know that family is important. They know that their homes should be a sanctuary. If it’s not, they take steps to correct the situation. Spending time with family is a huge part of what makes people happy.
